Answers to common questions
What does MOT stand for?
MOT Test stands for Ministry of Transport Test (though the Ministry of Transport no longer exists) and around 53,000 people are qualified to do the test in the UK.
What is an MOT?
MOT testing is required by law on all vehicles in the UK that are 3 years old or more. This annual inspection follows strict criteria set out by the DVSA that determines if your car is fit for purpose and in a roadworthy condition.
The MOT test covers a wide range of vehicle safety checks including tyres, lights, emissions and seatbelts and can only be carried out by an MOT garage with DVSA approved examiners.
During the MOT test the nominated tester who is there to assess your vehicle, will conduct a comprehensive inspection to ensure the vehicle is in roadworthy condition. This it is not the equivalent of having your vehicle serviced as an MOT test does not check the general mechanical condition of the vehicle. The MOT assessment is based on the condition of the vehicle on that particular day.
If the vehicle passes, the nominated tester will separately list and inform you of any ‘advisory’ or ‘minor’ items that will require attention in the near future so you can keep an eye on them.
How long does an MOT test take?
An MOT test will take between 45-60 minutes. While you wait we have some lovely coffees, teas and magazines on offer for you to read and we’re located right in the centre of Banbury.

What happens if my car fails its test?
If the vehicle fails, you may be entitled to a free re-test.
When do I need an MOT Test?
