How Long Does an MOT Test Take?
Cars over three years old must, by law, pass an annual MOT test to show that are roadworthy.
An average MOT test takes anywhere between 45 and 60 minutes, but there are a few other things to take into consideration.
Firstly, should your vehicle fail the test and repairs need to be made, this will take longer.
An MOT test centre is not permitted to let you drive away a vehicle that has failed an MOT until the problems are fixed, unless your existing MOT certificate is still valid, or you are taking the car to get the faults fixed.
Secondly, the MOT test might take an hour or less, but, even if there aren’t any repairs, this does not mean your vehicle will only have to be at the garage for sixty minutes. This is because Test centres can ask you to drop your vehicle off first thing in the morning and collect it when its ready
